Bilibo
Some say that Bilibo is a new kind of toy, but in many ways it’s the oldest kind of toy. It’s the “kids love to play with pots and pans” or “nothing’s more fun than the box the Xerox paper came in” kind of toy. It’s the toy that proves that play is about imagination, creativity, and flexibility, not about flashing lights and keeping score. Bilibo has a clean, basic shell shape that does the most important thing a toy can do: it leaves room for your child’s imagination.
Rather than imposing a specific way it must be played with, Bilibo is open for a wide variety of interpretations and thus it encourages kids to invent their own games, to play and have fun in active and creative ways. Whether they’re playing indoors or out, in a sandbox, at the pool, or even in the snow, Bilibo is a full of surprises, because kids are full of surprises.
Bilibo’s unique shell-like shape and bright colors immediately appeal to children of all ages who intuitively create games with it. Bilibo was developed by Zurich University’s Children’s Hospital to engage imagination, stimulate their senses, and encourage creativity. There is no right side up or upside down with Bilibo, no worries about breaking it or hurting it. With its variety of primary colors and its rounded edge, “big grin” sides and eye-like handle holes … the possibilities of the Bilibo are endless.

The whole family enjoys this toy – especially our two year old son. We saw a few of these at his daycare being used by the just starting to walk infants as well as preschoolers and decided to get one.
What a blast! As a mom, I even sit and spin and I’m 5′ 8″! The toy is very durable and well made. The bright colors are a big plus. My son has great fun spinning, tipping, standing on, standing in, using it as a helmet, a bowl, a seat, listening to items clank against the plastic when it is a bowl verses when it is turned over. The “eye” holes are a constant fascination for him. What will fit through there? How about this cardboard tube? Now what happens when I put a marble down the cardboard tube, etc. Every time we bring it out, we have fun and usually find a new way to play with it.
I highly recommend this toy as a great way to interact with your child and think of new games and new ways to play together.

I bought two of these for my 2 and 5 year old but we also have a 4 and 6 year old that come over and play with this toy daily. It was instant fun right out of the box. We do many balancing contests with it flat on the floor. the kids see who can stand on one foot the longest, do superman, tippy toes, etc. This is reccomended for carpet use since they keep falling off, but the giggles don’t stop. Of course the spinning is a given, all kids will love that. It was first used outside so the concrete scraped up the bottoms a bit, but otherwise you really can’t hurt this toy unless you put it in a fire. I was skeptical at first, but I am impressed, we will just have to see how long it keeps their interest. I think it would also be a hit to take to the park. If you like this, your kids will love a 10+ foot parachute, that really gets the creativity going as well.

I gave this to my 2.5 year old son for Christmas, and when he saw it he said, “I no want that.” But, within half an hour, he had changed his mind and I was astonished at all the creative uses he found for it. He put it on his head and became a firefighter, put it on his back to become a turtle, he sat in it and spun around, he lay stomach down on it and lifted his arms and legs to fly, and he used it as a bowl to make imaginary fruit salad with Melissa and Doug fruit.
The only downside we can see to this so far is that it is rather big and bulky. But overall I’m excited that we purchased this because I’ve never seen my son get so creative with any of his other toys!
I want to give this toy a 5 star… I really do! But it just messed my floors up so bad. If you have even one grain of sand on the floor (which I do having a husky dog who likes to lay in the dirt outside) and you spin it on that one grain of sand, It will leave “swirlies” in your floor. Then over time it will scuff the surface of the plastic rendering it useless unless you plan to replace your floor in the next year. I thought about trying to resurface the plastic…? who knows. I just know at the price I will not be buying another one. Too bad.

I bought this for my son’s second birthday and he really likes it. I bought it for the longevity and because it’s meant to be an imaginative toy (hence the 2 rating for educational value).
Right now he likes to put stuff in it, dump it out, put it back, dump it out… He also loves to sit in it, lean back and fall out of it. It’s even strong enough for me to do it. He thinks that’s hilarious.
I think this will last him years as he discovers new things he can do with it, and we may end up getting a second one one day.
